Prior to booking your appointment online you will have to agree to a liability waiver as part of the terms and conditions. Once you arrive your vehicles battery will be connected to an additional power source to keep the voltage stable for flashing your ECU. We will connect to the vehicles ODBII port and verify if a ECU update is required. After the ECU update, if needed, we will flash the ECU with the tune. After idling the engine for a few minutes you will take your vehicle for a quick drive. This gives you an opportunity to get a feel for the throttle response, and if needed we can adjust the throttle to be either more or less aggressive. Plan on a total of around 30 minutes in most cases.
The tune is no different than any other aftermarket part placed on your vehicle. If the dealer believes that the tune has caused / could have caused the warranty issue, the dealer can deny warranty work for that particular issue. We have not heard of any issues with warranty, but want to be 100% transparent. If you have any concerns about warranty, we suggest not tuning your vehicle.
While tuning does not change the calibration ID of the ECU, other than in some supercharged applications, any change to the ECU will result in a CVN mismatch and the dealer will determine that the ECU has been flashed. This is the same if your vehicle is subject to emissions and your State / County does a CVN look-up, it will fail emissions, unless a calibration has received a CARB Executive Order like OTT's 3rd Gen Tacoma 3.5L Calibration.
Every truck is different and every person has a different driving style and habits, therefore it is impossible to make any statements regarding MPG and how the any tune may have an effect on it. You may potentially see gains if you drive normally and do routine maintenance. If you're looking strictly for a tune to save MPG only, please do not get your vehicle tuned. Most customers will see net zero gains/losses, but those who are conservative may see some improvement with MPG.
We always recommend premium to get the maximum benefit of any tune, but it is not necessary in most cases. We DO recommend always filling the tank at a gas station that sells Top Tier fuel. All tunes are octane learning as well, so the ECU will self-adjust according to what's in the tank.
We will not tune any vehicle that has factory emissions equipment uninstalled, deleted, and/or defeated. All vehicles must have fully intact emissions systems regardless if your current state of residence has emissions regulations or not. No state is above the Federal EPA and the Clean Air Act (CAA) guidelines. We will not "turn off" check engine / MIL lights. We do not calibrate "off road only" vehicles.
The tune will not fix any stuttering. This is a mechanical issue that can be caused by low transmission fluid, a bad torque converter, or a bad transmission. In some applications there it is a known factory defect that should be diagnosed and repaired by the dealership or an independent shop. Tuning will only exacerbate the stuttering due to the change in shift points.
If you disclose that the transmission has a stutter, we will not tune the vehicle. If you do not disclose a stutter prior to tuning and have complaints afterwards, we will put the truck back to the stock calibration and we will not provide a refund.
Yes, we are able to reflash the stock calibration and are happy to return your vehicle to stock if you desire.
Unfortunately not, however there are other aftermarket options available such as Rough Country or HyperTech.
